The company KONČAR – Electronics and Informatics Inc. (INEM) has applied to the tender of the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts of the Republic of Croatia for the grant for the development of the project “KONPRO 2 – Development of a new generation of numeric protection devices”. The project was approved and the Grant Agreement signed on 25th May 2018 in the Ministry.
This research and development project will be funded from the European Regional Development Fund that is intended for “Strengthening the development of new products and services resulting from R & D activities”.
The total eligible costs of the project amount to HRK 13,324,064, and the grant is HRK 8,114,783. INEM partner in this project is the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) of the University of Zagreb. The project is to be finished by 2nd May
2021, whereby industrial research will last until 1st January 2021, while the remaining time is foreseen for experimental development.
Relay protection systems are a part of the secondary equipment of the power system and their basic function is to disable defective parts of the power system. Through their function they protect the primary equipment so that there is no damage to or long-term interruptions in the power supply. Furthermore, they protect people near the fault location and allow uninterrupted power supply in the rest of the network.
The aim of the project is development and production of a new protection, measurement and control system for application in power plants. The system would use new functionalities, enhance and consolidate existing ones, and significantly expand the scope of application.
The project is a part of the overall development of a new platform of advanced microprocessor embedded systems for regulation, protection and control of power systems. The new platform would be based on distributed modular functions (hardware and software) that would be connected to the entire advanced system. The technical-economic justification of the project is increased because other similar devices for regulating and control of the processes in the power system can later be implemented as derivatives on the same platform.
The project should contribute to the continuity of product competitiveness and ensure sales growth on both the domestic and global markets. The project also includes the intellectual property protection through the registration of trademarks and design of a new product. KONČAR – INEM expects to increase its market share in this business segment and revenue from the sale of a new product through the realisation of this project.
The project was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
Medium repair of static converters VIS 50-1 and VIS 60-1
KONČAR – Electronics and Informatics Inc. signed a contract with HŽ-Passenger Transport, Inc. for medium repair services of static converters type VIS 50-1 and VIS 60-1 that includes disassembling, medium repair works, installation and testing of 24 static converters on passenger cars.
The medium repair works of static converters include disassembling of sub-assembling sets, electronic modules and main components from the converter cubicle, thorough cleaning, washing and painting of the cubicle, checking the functionality of all circuits and electronic modules, replacement of defective and used-up parts, re-mounting the converter and its functional control at the factory and on the passenger car. This preventive
maintenance of the converter enables reliable operation of static converters that significantly contributes to the carriage availability of passenger cars on domestic and international lines. Contracted medium repairs will be carried out periodically, 3 to 4 static converters per month.
The medium repair works on four static converters were completed in May and June. In the meanwhile, those converters were tested on passenger cars. When checking the quality, representatives of HŽ-Passenger Transport were extremely satisfied with the performed service and it is expected that the medium repairs of the static converters will continue in the next years.
Reconstruction of medium voltage transformer station 35/10 kV Dugi Otok
KONČAR Electronics and Informatics Inc. completed reconstruction of medium voltage transformer station for Croatian DSO (Distribution System Operator). It is TS 35/10 kV Dugi Otok, located on central part of Dugi Otok island.
Due the increase of station capacity and expanding with additional 4MVA transformer, new bays are added and equipped with protection and control terminals (relays). In addition all other protection devices are upgraded and changed.
All new devices are KONČAR protection relays of KONPRO series: RFX633 and RFD633. KONČAR Electronics and Informatics Inc. also provided new AC power supply system. Communication between relays is done using IEC 61850 protocol.
After installation, all equipment is successfully tested together with remote control from DSO dispatching centre in Zadar.
